Obverse

On the obverse of each 2018 British Queens Beast Black Bull 1/4 oz Gold Coin is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II featured at age 89. This is the fifth design of Her Majesty used on British coinage. It was created in 2015 by Jody Clark, an engraver for the Royal Mint. The fifth image of the Queen makes her the monarch with the most different designs on British coinage in the countrys history.

Reverse

The reverse of all of the coins in this listing ear the image of the Black Bull of Clarence. The Black Bull was borne on the Royal Arms for more than 200 years. Edward IV is the royal most closely associated with the Black Bull, but the Lancastrians and the Tudors also used the image.

History

The Black Bull of Clarence is the first of the heraldic beasts to come from the House of York. King Edward IV was the first of the York kings in English history; he ousted King Henry VI of the House Lancaster after the War of the Roses and claimed the throne through his great-grandfather Roger Mortimer, the Duke of Clarence, who was the first to use the bull in his coat of arms.
