In 2018, the Chinese Mint released the first in a planned series of eight coins, each celebrating a classic Chinese silver dollar design. Leading the collection is the Kiangnan Dragon Dollar, a modern restrike that mirrors the original 1904 silver dollar from Chinas Kiangnan province. Right now, you can purchase 2018 Chinese Kiangnan Dragon 1 oz Silver Dollar Coin restrikes at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2018 Chinese Kiangnan Dragon 1 oz Silver Dollar Coin arrives in a plastic capsule to help keep the piece in excellent condition. This restrike brings back the original artwork featured on the 1904 Kiangnan Dragon Dollar, a coin that remains highly regarded by collectors of Chinese coins. The 1904 version was issued during the final years of the Qing Dynasty at the provincial mint in Kiangnan.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 2018 Chinese Kiangnan Dragon Silver Dollar Coin displays the iconic Kiangnan dragon, as it appeared on the 1904 issue. This version of the dragon is known for its thick body, rounded face, expressive eyebrows, and five clawseach element representing power and regional flair within imperial Chinas traditional dragon imagery.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2018 Kiangnan Dragon 1 oz Silver Dollar Coin, youll find the Chinese inscriptions that were present on the original 1904 issue. These characters note the ruling emperors name and include information about the coins intended weight during its original mintage.
History
Throughout its years of production from 1897 to 1905, the Kiangnan Dragon Dollar underwent various small design tweaks. These adjustments, often seen in the dragons facial structure and pattern of scales, help identify coins from different years and are of particular interest to numismatic researchers.
