Block Island National Wildlife Refuge is located on Block Island, a plot of land in the Atlantic Ocean situated 9 miles south of Rhode Islands coastline and 14 miles east of Long Island in New York. The island itself is named for a Dutch explorer who first spent time on the island, Adriaen Block.
