The Dragon and Phoenix is one of the newer releases from the Perth Mint. Much like the Dragon and Tiger coin, this coin showcases different animals that are important to the Chinese culture. These animals, some of which are mythical creatures, are shown in a yin-yang position on the reverse side of bullion coinage. However, now there is a new proof version of the silver Dragon and Phoenix coins. Provident Metals has the 2018 Proof Australian Dragon and Phoenix 1 oz Silver Coins available.

Highlights:

  • Ships in Perth Mint display case!
  • Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
  • 1st release in the Dragon and Phoenix Series!
  • Mintage limited to just 2,500 coins!
  • Each coin contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • Face value of $1 (AUD) backed by the Australian government.
  • Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse.
  • Reverse showcases the dragon and phoenix design.
  • Designed by Thomas Vaughan.

Each of the coins in this listing comes with a black clamshell display box that is lined with velvet. Additionally, they come with Certificates of Authenticity and a themed shipper box.

Obverse

On the obverse face of each coin is the image of Queen Elizabeth II. This design was created by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. This is the fourth-generation image of Her Majesty to be used on coinage.

Reverse

The reverse side of the coin shows the image of a dragon and a phoenix circling a flaming pearl. The pearl is viewed as a metaphor for wisdom and enlightenment in Chinese culture. The Dragon and Phoenix design was created by Thomas Vaughan, who also created the design for the Dragon and Tiger coins as well. The dragon is a symbol of power and strength, and the phoenix symbolizes the rise of a new emperor.

History

These coins were minted at the Perth Mint, which was founded in 1898. The Perth Mint was originally created as part of the Royal Mint in Great Britain. It is not associated with the Royal Australian Mint.
