While this coin series offers releases in both gold and silver, the designs vary between the precious metals options. On the gold coins, for example, Ing Ing Jong chose the Labrador Retriever to represent the Year of the Dog. Additionally, there is only one dog in that design. Jong, who designed both coins, went a different route for the silver offering.

On the silver coins, Jong chose to represent the Year of the Year with a pair of German Shepherds. One of the dogs is a puppy, while the other is mature.

Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is proudly featured on the obverse face of these coins. She is pictured in right-profile relief in this fourth-generation design that was created by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998.

Reverse

The reverse face of each coin showcases the Year of the Dog design. On this coin, you will see two German Shepherd Dogs lying in a field. As one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States and the United Kingdom, it was a wise choice for placement on these coins. GSD are also commonly used as police and military dogs.
