The 2018 Proof Connecticut Mohegan Whale 1 oz Silver Coin is the 7^th design that was released in 2018 and is the 20^th coin released in the series. The Native American Proof Silver Dollar Series is to represent a Native American tribe from each of the 50 states and territories in the United States and in Canada. The series was first introduced in 2015 and has become wildly popular since the first coin rolled out of the mint.

The coins are assigned a face value by the Native American Mint, and they are backed by the Mohegan tribe. However, they are not considered to be legal tender in the United States, due to the federal law that states only the United States Mint can produce legal tender.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2018 Proof Connecticut Mohegan Whale 1 oz Silver Coin features the detailed image of a member of the Mohegan tribe. With an impressive mohawk and feathers in his hair, this proud Mohegan is depicted with a wolf pelt thrown over his shoulders for warmth. The portrait also features the tribe name, the metal content of the coin, along with the release date, weight and face value of the coin.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 2018 Proof Connecticut Mohegan Whale 1 oz Silver Coin features the image of a large whale. The whale was often hunted by the tribes that lived near the shores. Many of the tribe that called the North American east coast home relied heavily upon the tributary rivers and the ocean as sources of food for their families.

While the coins in this series do have a face value of $1, they are not considered to be legal tender in the United States.
