Obverse

The obverse of 2018 Proof Isle of Man Noble 1 oz Silver Coins bear the latest effigy of Queen Elizabeth II used in Britain. Designed by Jody Clark, this right-profile bust of the Queen depicts Her Majesty at the age of 89 and shows her wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. Unlike coins from the Royal Mint, these portraits on Pobjoy Mint issues include the Queens neckline and shoulders in full with a necklace visible resting at her shoulders. Inscriptions include Queen Elizabeth II, Isle of Man, 2018, and the initials of the designer as JC.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 2018 Proof Isle of Man Noble Silver Coins, you will find the image of a Viking longship. To the people of Britain in the 7th, 8th, and 9th centuries, the sight of a Viking longship approaching the shore was one of sheer terror. Viking raiders plundered England for centuries and battles with Saxon kingdoms for control over territory and riches. Inscriptions on this face include Ag 999 1 Ounce and One Noble.

History

The Isle of Man was one of many islands in the British Isles terrorized by Viking raiders. From the 9th century until 1266, the island was controlled by the King of Norway as part of the Kingdom of the Isles.
