This series is a modern follow-up to the 1921 Gold Centenario, which was issued to mark 100 years of Mexican independence from Spain. Todays Gold Libertad coins continue that tradition with designs that feature the national coat of arms on one side and Winged Victory on the other. Each 2018 Proof Mexican Libertad 1 oz Gold Coin is shipped in a protective acrylic capsule. The Mexican Mint struck just 1,000 of these coins, which matches the mintage levels for the 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/20 oz versions from the same year. These proof coins are known for their frosted designs and mirror-like background surfaces.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 2018 Proof Mexican Libertad Gold Coin displays the Mexican national seal. In this design, a Golden eagle stands on a cactus with a snake in its beak and talon. Surrounding the image is the official name of Mexico in Spanish. This emblem has roots in a well-known legend from Mexicos past. The inscriptions include ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2018 Proof Libertad 1 oz Gold Coins, the coin features the Winged Victory statue. The statue stands on top of the Independence Victory Column, located in the heart of Mexico City. The column and statue were created to mark a century of independence from Spanish rule. The inscriptions read 1 ONZA, ORO PURO, 2018 LEY .999, and the mint mark.
History
The origin of the coat of arms ties back to an Aztec legend. The Mexica people were told by their god, Huitzilopochtli, to settle where they found an eagle devouring a snake on a cactus growing from a rock in the middle of a lake. This led to the founding of Tenochtitlan, present-day Mexico City.

All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
