The HMS Endeavour is known to be one of the most significant ships to ever sail for the British Royal Navy. The Endeavour was built in 1764 and was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1768. The Endeavor was sent on a remarkable voyage around the world before meeting a fate not befitting her history. The Rwandan Nautical Ounce Series started with the launch of the Santa Maria coin, which honored the lead ship in Christopher Columbuss fleet as he journeyed to the New World. This release honors one of the most well-known ships from the British Royal Navy.

These coins all ship in plastic flips and will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Obverse

The obverse face of each coin bears the image of the impressive HMS Endeavour ship. The ships journey started in Plymouth, UK, in August of 1768. In 1769, the Endeavour rounded Cape Horn and landed in Tahiti. By September of 1769, the ship, captained by James Cook, reached the coast of New Zealand. It was the first European vessel to arrive in New Zealand since the Heemskerck 127 years earlier.

Reverse

On the reverse side of these coins, you will see the Rwandan coat of arms. You will also see engravings on the national bank of Rwanda and the coins face value.

History

After landing in New Zealand, the Endeavour sailed north to Australias east coast, where it landed in April 1770. Three years after departing from England, the Endeavour returned home to Dover, UK.
