A small portrait of Queen Elizabeth II can be found on the obverse, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Underneath Her Majesty, you’ll find a Tuluma, a wooden tackle box used to symbolize Tokelau and its fishermen. A banner below the Tuluma reads “TOKELAU MOT E ATUA,” which translates to “Tokelau for God.” Additional inscriptions include the weight, purity, denomination, and year of issue.
The reverse features a leopard shark swimming through a field of kelp in the ocean. Inscriptions include “MAGO-TAGUTA LEOPARD SHARK” and “TOKELAU.”
The Leopard Shark is the fifth release in a 12-coin series struck at the Highland Mint and issued by the New Zealand territory of Tokelau. It follows the Tuna, Sailfish, Great White Shark, and Barracuda. One coin from this series has been released each year with a limited mintage of 250,000.
Single Leopard Shark coins ship in a protective plastic flip. Multiples of 20 ship in mint-sealed plastic tubes. Multiples of 500 come in strapped monster boxes.
