This packaging has remained consistent in recent years.
This years Proof Set again contains 2 sets of coins the ninth annual release of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program set and the regular Proof coin set.
The America the Beautiful Quarters Program includes 56 quarters honoring a national park or a national site from each hosting jurisdiction (State/District of Columbia/Territory). The programs quarters are issued at a rate of 5 new designs each year, in the order that they were selected as sites. The 5 quarters included in the 2018 Proof Set are Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan, Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Wisconsin, Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota, Cumberland Island National Seashore in Georgia, and Block Island National Wildlife Refuge in Rhode Island.
Regular coins included in the Proof Set are one each of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, and Kennedy Half Dollar. In 2009, the Native American Dollar Program replaced the Sacagawea Golden Dollar in the Set. The 2018 Native American Dollar coin continues to feature the obverse design of Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste. The reverse design features Jim Thorpe, the great athlete and Olympian. The foreground of the reverse depicts his greatness as both a football player and an Olympic track and field star.
What is considered to be the modern era of Proof coins was ushered into when the Philadelphia Mint restarted minting Proof coins in 1936. Proof coins could be purchased either individually or in full sets. After enduring another production pause from 1942 to 1949, production of Proof coins resumed again in 1950. At this time, however, the Proof coins were available only in the full sets. The Proof Sets have undergone numerous changes throughout time, from the number of coins in the set, the sets packaging, the obverse and reverse designs of the coins to even what coins are included in the sets.
