The Burnished American Eagle Silver Coin is produced in a different manner than its Brilliant Uncirculated and proof counterparts. The blanks used in the production of the burnished coins are first polished in a drum to create a matte visual element on the coins. Each blank is handled by gloved hands when removed from the drum, loaded individually into coining presses, and removed immediately after coining for packaging to ensure the beautiful condition and visual brilliance of the coins.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2018-W Burnished American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin is a depiction of Walking Liberty. This iconic image once appeared on the half dollar in the United States and was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman. The design captures Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon with one hand reaching out toward the sun and the other carrying the branches of oak and laurel.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2018-W Burnished American Eagle Silver Coin features one of the oldest designs in American coining history. The heraldic eagle of the United States was first developed for the US Mint in 1794 by Robert Scot, the 1st Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. This particular design was modified by John Mercanti in 1986 for the American Eagle Silver Coin debut. Mercanti was the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 2006 to 2010.
