The crowned shield includes a field of horizontal lines with a single star in the center. It is supported on each side by a leopard and has crossed fern leaves and spears below draped with a ribbon. Above is an inscription of Somali Republic, while the date mark is split on either side of the shield as 20 and 19. Below the shield is the face value of 100 Shillings and the entire design field has a beaded border element.

Somalia Elephant silver and gold coins have been issued for the Somali Republic since 2004. Prior to that, the coins were available as the Zambia Elephant from 1999 to 2003. The silver coins in this series expanded significantly in 2016 to include fractional-ounce and a number of larger coins, as well as gaining an increase in silver purity to .9999 silver content.
