Obverse
The obverse of the 2019 American Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coin presents a right-profile relief of a Native American. Fraser drew inspiration from three Native American leaders for this design, amalgamating facial features to create this iconic representation, although there were claims from several tribal leaders at the time. Inscriptions read LIBERTY, F, and 2019.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 2019 American Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coins display the portrayal of Black Diamond, an American bison depicted in left-profile relief atop a mound of grass. This bison was once a resident of the Central Park Zoo in early 20th-century New York City. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, $50, and 1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD.
History
Designed in line with the iconic American Eagle Series, both honoring historic American coin designs, the American Gold Buffalo proudly echoes the revered Buffalo Nickel. Originally issued in 1913 and ceased in 1938, the Buffalo Nickel’s design, conceived by James Earle Fraser, reflects his upbringing on the plains of the Midwest. It portrays a Native American profile on the obverse and an American bison on the reverse, symbolizing the crucial significance of this species to indigenous Plains Tribes.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies.
