The Australian Dragon Series is a standout collection from Perth Mint featuring the famous Chinese dragon. In 2019, the mint introduced a platinum bullion version with a strict mintage limit of 2,500 coins. Today, 2019 Australian Dragon 1 oz Platinum Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 2019 Australian Dragon 1 oz Platinum Coins are available in protective plastic flips for secure storage. Perth Mint set the mintage at 2,500 coins in 2019, but only 2,099 were sold, leaving just 2,099 coins in the hands of collectors and investors.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2019 Australian Dragon Platinum Coin, youll see the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II used on Australian coinage. Created in 2015 for The Royal Mint, the image shows the Queen at 89 years old wearing the George IV State Diadem. This sixth official effigy made its debut on Australian coins in 2018. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2019 Dragon 1 oz Platinum Coin features a detailed Chinese dragon. Its long, winding body moves across the design as it chases a flaming pearl. In Chinese culture, dragons stand for power, wisdom, and protection, unlike the destructive role they often play in Western stories. Inscriptions read 2019 1 OZ 9995 PLATINUM and the P mint mark.
History
The Chinese dragon, or long, is considered a sign of luck and prosperity, believed to bring rain and control rivers and seas essential for farming. Historically, Chinese emperors claimed to be descendants of dragons, with the five-clawed dragon reserved as a symbol of imperial rule. Even today, dragons appear in festivals, art, and feng shui traditions.
