Obverse
The obverse face of each coin bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II. While there are many effigies for Her Majesty on coins around the globe, this depiction is unique to Pobjoy Mint. The image shows the Queen in right-profile relief with the Royal Diadem crown atop her head.
Reverse
On the reverse side of these coins, you will see the flying Pegasus horse as it rears up on its hind legs. In Greek mythology, the Pegasus is said to have come from Athena. While there have been three releases in the series, this is the second design. The 2019 coins have the same design as the 2018 coins.
History
In mythology, Pegasus is said to have served Zeus, who was the most powerful Greek god. To reward the winged horse for his service, he was given a unique form of immortality that transformed him into a constellation on the last day of his life.
