The obverse side of the 2019 Canadian Polar Bear Silver Coin features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The first effigy of her reign to lack a crown, this portrait of the Queen was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt. Ms. Blunt is just the second Canadian artist to ever create a monarch portrait for Canadian coinage. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read ELIZABETH II, D.G. REGINA, and 2 DOLLARS.

Reverse

On the reverse field of the 2019 Canadian Polar Bear 1/2 oz Silver Coin is a depiction of the polar bear in its native habitat. Polar bears are found exclusively, in the wild at least, within the Arctic Circle. In this years design, the polar bear is seen in a similar setting within the Arctic Circle as it stands at the edge of an ice shelf as the ice sheets in the background body of water show some breaks where the open, frigid water is accessible. The field includes inscriptions of CANADA, 2019, 9999, FINE SILVER, 1/2 OZ, and ARGENT PUR.

History

The silver coins in the Canadian Polar Bear 1/2 oz Silver Series feature new images of the polar bear on the reverse of the coins each year. You will also notice radial lines in the background on both sides. The obverse has a full background of radial lines, while the reverse has the radial lines around the edge of the field.
