The House of Plantagenets rose to power in the Anjou region of France. They once had control over not just England, but large parts of the European continent. The first British monarch from the House of Plantagenets was King Henry II, who rose to the throne in 1154. The rule of Plantagenet monarchs would last for more than 300 years.

King Edward III, who reigned in the 14^th century, is credited with adding one of the most lasting symbols to the British Royal Arms, in the form of the White Falcon. King Edward III had a love of hawking, which is what led him to add the majestic falcon to his personal seal. The falcon was passed down for several generations, with Queen Elizabeth I, who ruled in the early 17^th century, expressed a love for this beautiful addition to the British Royal Arms.
