The Native American Silver Dollar Series has proven to be incredibly popular amongst collectors and investors both. Offering beautifully unique designs, the release of new designs is eagerly anticipated by those who have an appreciation for Native American artwork and silver. The 2019 Proof California Kumeyaay Grizzly Bear 1 oz Silver Coin is the 2nd design released in 2019 and is the 22nd design released in the entire series. While the coins are not considered to be legal tender in the United States, the tribes are sovereign nations, which means that they can assign face value to the coins. At .999 pure silver, these pieces are very popular and are in high demand.

When your 2019 Proof California Kumeyaay Grizzly Bear 1 oz Silver Coin arrives, it will be protected in a plastic capsule. The coins do have a $1 face value, but federal law states that the United States Mint is the only mint legally authorized to produce legal tender. This gets further complicated by the fact that sovereign tribal nations can assign and back the dollar value of their coins.

The Kumeyaay people have a low population of just 3,200 across the nation today. In years gone by, their territory included southern areas of California and the Baja California peninsula of Mexico.

Obverse

The obverse design of the 2019 Proof California Kumeyaay Grizzly Bear 1 oz Silver Coin features an image of a member of the Kumeyaay tribe. The Kumeyaay people are thought to have a history reaching as far back as 12,000 years. Also featured on the obverse side of the coin are the weight, size, purity and metal content of the coin.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 2019 Proof California Kumeyaay Grizzly Bear 1 oz Silver Coin features the beautifully designed image of the North American grizzly bear, with two cubs. This apex predator is also referred to as a brown bear. Explorers Lewis & Clark famously named the bear a grizzly bear after encountering one. Also featured on the reverse of the coin are the words California Grizzly Bear and Jamul Sovereign Nation, along with America at the lower part of the design set.

The grizzly bear, also known as the North American Brown Bear, is one of the largest species of brown bear in the United States. While they may appear to be ferocious, the grizzly prefers to avoid human interaction. Their diet includes mostly nuts, berries, and fruits.
