Obverse
The obverse image is of a sole African bush elephant. The elephant is presented against a blank field to ensure that the patterns on it stand out even more. Those patterns are created in mandala-style with geometric elements. The elephant is surrounded by inscriptions that spell out 5000 FRANCS CFA, FINE SILVER 1 TROY OUNCE, 999 and 999. The 999 on either side of the elephant are for the purity of the silver content of this coin.

Reverse
The reverse of the coin includes the inscriptions REPUBLIQUE DUE TCHAD 2019 and 5000 FRANCS CFA. They are placed above and below the reverse image, which is of the national coat of arms of the Republic of Chad. That coat of arms features a shield at the center, and the shield includes wavy lines that represent Lake Chad. On either side of the shield, a lion and a goat are depicted standing on their hind legs and using their forelegs to hold the shield up. The image is completed by the depiction of a National Order of Chad medal and a French scroll spelling out UNITY, WORK, PROGRESS.
