The central design elements are flanked by shields on either side with a sun rising overhead. The national motto is inscribed below the seal. Other inscriptions on this side include the name of the nation and the Central Bank of Rwanda as the issuer. All text inscriptions are in Kinyarwanda, the native tongue of much of the population of Rwanda.

Reverse

In the reverse design element, 2019 Rwanda Shoebill 1 oz Silver Coins depict the large, stork-like birds known simply as the shoebill. Sometimes referred to as the whalehead, whale-headed stork, or the shoe-billed stork, the birds are named for the enormous bill that is shaped similar to a shoe.
