KOMSCO is the official sovereign mint of the Republic of Korea. It has produced circulation currency and banknotes for the nation for decades and recently made an impression on international investors and collectors with the Chiwoo Cheonwang, South Korean Tiger, and Zi:Sin medals. The fourth year of the South Korean Tiger Series arrives with the 2019 South Korean Tiger Gold Medal. Provident Metals is happy to offer you the 2019 South Korean Tiger 1/10 oz Gold Medal for purchase online.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a red assay card package!
  • 4th year of availability for South Korean Tiger Gold Medals!
  • Limited mintage of just 3,000 gold medals!
  • Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • A South Korean tiger gouges streaks in the obverse design field.
  • The Korean peninsula features on the reverse of the medal.

The tiger is a symbol of power, strength, and good luck to the people of Korea. It is little wonder why given that it features prominently in Korean founding mythology and is a major artistic symbol still used to this day by folk artists and sculptors alike. The tiger was even the official mascot of the 1988 Summer Olympics when the capital city of Seoul played host to the world.

Obverse

A South Korean tiger is featured on the obverse side of the 2019 South Korean Tiger 1/10 oz Gold Medal. There is no genetically recognized Korean tiger. Instead, this term applies to the Siberian tigers that used to inhabit the Korean peninsula. The last native Korean tiger was believed to have been killed in 1921. Much of the remaining Korean tiger population was killed by the Japanese in the early 20th century following Imperial Japan’s invasion of the peninsula.

Reverse

The Korean peninsula is the focus of the reverse design field on the 2019 South Korean Tiger Gold Medal. This image is a stylized design that represents the Korean peninsula using the letters of the Hangul, the official alphabet of Korea. The taeguk, South Korea’s official emblem, is also featured on this side of the medal to the left of the Korean peninsula.

History

KOMSCO issues the South Korean Tiger 1/10 oz Gold Medals this year with a maximum mintage of just 3,000 gold medals. However, those medals are split between two different assay card packages with an even 1,500 medals devoted to each color.

Ordering

If you purchase the 2019 South Korean Tiger 1/10 oz Gold Medal through this listing, your product arrives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with a protective red assay card. As mentioned above, only 1,500 of the gold medals are available in this red label. The assay card includes the serial number, weight, metal content, and purity of the medal.
