The American Eagle coin features a reverse proof finish with a mirrored design and frosted background, with visual elements accentuated by polishing and frosting, while the Maple Leaf coin showcases a modified proof finish, with frosted designs rising above mirrored background fields.

Obverse

The obverse field on the American Eagle coin features Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty with a flag enfolding her and the sun rising behind her. The Silver Maple Leaf’s obverse field features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, along with a decorative border that bears the lettering of her name, the coin’s face value, and its year of issue.

Reverse

The Eagle’s reverse features a heraldic eagle and inscriptions of the country of issue, face value, and silver content. The Maple Leaf’s reverse features a maple leaf designed by Walter Ott, with a matching decorative border that bears lettering for the country of issue and silver purity.

History

As an initiative of the United States Mint, the Pride of Two Nations coin set was carried out as a part of the American Eagle Coin Program. That program, launched in 1986, was specifically designed to produce bullion coins for the collectors’ market. The addition of the Pride of Two Nations set to its offers marked a collaboration between two of the world’s most popular mints.
