Burnished American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins undergo a different production process than the other versions of the coin. The blanks are first mixed in a tumbler with a polishing compound to give the blanks the burnished appearance. Each one is removed by gloved hands, struck individually in the coining press, and removed by gloved hands for immediate packaging. The burnished coins have, in general, a matte appearance.

Obverse

Walking Liberty is depicted on the obverse of 2019-W Burnished American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. This effigy of Liberty was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and submitted to the US Mint for consideration to replace one of the three Barber Coinage designs. It was chosen for the half dollar and featured on that coin from 1916 to 1947.

Reverse

The heraldic eagle of the United States is depicted on the reverse of 2019-W Burnished American Eagle Silver Coins. First designed in 1792 by Robert Scot, the first Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, this modern vision of the heraldic eagle was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti who would go on to complete his US Mint career as the 12th Chief Engraver in mint history from 2006 to 2010.

History

Burnished American Eagle silver coins were introduced in 2006 and produced until 2008. The series was suspended in 2009 and 2010 as the US Mint coped with sky-high demand for the bullion version of the coin and had to redirect all available blanks to bullion coining. Since 2011, it has been back in regular production with much lower mintages than before the suspension.
