It was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 and graced the Double Eagle circulation coin until 1933. It features Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks with a large torch held out in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The US Capitol Building is visible at her feet and there is a circle of 50 stars around her figure.
Reverse
An American bald eagle family is depicted on the reverse of 2020 American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins. Created in 1986 by Miley Busiek, this image includes a male eagle flying over a nest that includes a female eagle with a young hatchling under her wing.
History
2020 American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins have mintage figures that ebb and flow with the demand for gold. Since 2009, the 1/2 oz gold coins in the American Eagle Series have been on the decline in mintages. The 2019 issue of the American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin set a new low mintage record of just 19,000 coins sold, that is lower than the previous record of 24,100 set in 1991.
