This bust of Washington in left-profile relief has appeared on circulation US quarters since 1932 and was modified for use on the ATB Series of silver coins. The bust was originally created in 1932 by John Flanagan. The presidents bust was chosen in 1932 to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth and placed on the quarter to replace the suspended Standing Liberty design halted in 1930.

Reverse

On the reverse of 2020 ATB Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Preserve 5 oz Silver Coins is a depiction of a young red mangrove tree in the estuarine ecosystems the park protects. Salt River Bay Park protects mangrove forests, upland watersheds, and estuarine and other marine environments on the island of Saint Croix that support various threatened and endangered species.

History

Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve was officially established in February 1992 and is governed by both the National Park Service and the US Virgin Islands government. The park also includes a rich archeological record of successive attempts from various cultures to conquer and control the island of Saint Croix and the broader Virgin Islands.
