Obverse
On the obverse side of the 2020 Australian Rectangular Dragon 1 oz Gold Coin is the image of Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. The Queens bust as shown here was created in July 2015 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint of England. It was adapted for Australian denominations in 2019 to include her neckline and shoulders in a portrait for the first time since 1966. The Queens right-profile image is accompanied by inscriptions of Elizabeth II, Australia, 1 oz 9999 Au, 100 Dollars, and 2020.
Reverse
The reverse field of the 2020 Australian Rectangular Dragon Gold Coins includes the depiction of two dragons. Unlike the first two releases that included just one dragon, this years design has two dragons pursuing the same flaming pearl at the center of the design field. The only inscription on this face of the coin is a P mint mark from the Perth Mint.
History
The Australian Rectangular Dragon Series debuted in 2018 with silver and gold bullion coins, followed shortly after by proof versions of each release. The coins share the same design for each date mark, but the Perth Mint offers a new image of the dragon and flaming pearl for each release.
