Obverse
The obverse field of each 2020 British Queens Beast White Horse 1/4 oz Gold Coin features the bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is featured here in right-profile relief in a design created in 2015 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint of England. In this effigy, the Queen wears the George IV State Diadem Crown, an impressive crown that contains 1,333 diamonds weighing more than 300 karats.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2020 British Queens Beast White Horse Gold Coins, you will find the White Horse of Hanover towering over the Royal Arms of King George I of England. The Royal Arms of George I was carried by monarchs from the House of Hanover, in this exact design, from 1714 to 1801. The primary change to the Royal Arms following the death of Queen Anne and ascension of King George I was the removal of the Three Lions and Lion of Scotland from the fourth quadrant and the positioning of the Arms of Hanover, including the White Horse, in that quadrant. The Three Lions and Lion of Scotland remained in the first quadrant, however.
History
King George I was the second-to-last British monarch born outside of Britain. A native of Hanover in what was then the Holy Roman Empire, now Germany, George was the Elector of Hanover from 1698 onward and ascended the British throne in 1714 as the next Protestant in the bloodline to the crown.
