The Royal Arms of England dates back to 1198 when the first official version of the seal emerges in the reign of King Richard I. However, earlier versions served as inspiration for the Three Lions design with Saxon and Danish kings of various English Kingdoms previously using lions in their coat of arms. The modern version is featured on a brilliant coin series from the Royal Mint of England. Provident Metals currently offers the 2020 British Royal Arms 1/10 oz Gold Coin for purchase online.
When you purchase a 2020 British Royal Arms 1/10 oz Gold Coin in this listing, the product you receive is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are housed individually inside of protective plastic flips or in mint tubes for multiples of up to 10 coins.
On the obverse face of 2020 British Royal Arms 1/10 oz Gold Coins is Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is depicted in right-profile relief in the fifth-generation design created in July 2015 by Jody Clark. The Queen has featured on British denominations since 1952 and this effigy captures her at the age of 89. This side of the coin has a guilloche background element.
The reverse of the 2020 British Royal Arms 1/10 oz Gold Coins bears the modern Royal Arms of England from Timothy Noad. This design includes the Lion of England supporting the shield on the left and the Unicorn of Scotland supporting it from the right. The quartered shield features the Three Lions of England in two quadrants, the Lion of Scotland in one, and the Harp of Ireland in the other.
King Richard I was the first to officially adopt the Three Lions of England as the Royal Arms. Today, the Three Lions is the coat of arms for England. The Royal Arms, conversely, represents the monarchy. The other coat of arms designs in the shield include the rampant Lion of Scotland in one quadrant and the Harp of Ireland in the other.
The British Royal Arms Series comes from the Royal Mint of England. It debuted in 2019 with 1 oz gold and 1 oz silver, and expands in 2020 with a new 1 oz platinum coin and a 1/10 oz gold coin.
