Obverse

For the obverse design field, 2020 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins have the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This right-profile portrait was designed in 2003 and is the first image of a monarch for Canadian coins since the reign of King George VI to show the monarch without a crown.

Reverse

On the reverse face of 2020 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins is the sugar maple leaf design. This is the same design that has been in use in this series since 1979. It was designed by Walter Ott for the gold bullion version of the coin and has been used on the silver, platinum, and palladium versions of the coin introduced in the decades since.

History

All Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins are produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. The series debuted in 1988 and became the first silver bullion annual release to use .9999 pure silver content. The coins are only available in 1 oz silver and surpass most other silver bullion coins in terms of total mintage each year.
