Highlights:
Each 2020 Chinese Kweichow Auto 1 oz Silver Dollar Coin is shipped in a protective plastic capsule. The coin was issued in a limited mintage of 5,000 pieces. The design mirrors the 1928 coin that was once a local symbol of development, with Zhous personal car featured at a time when he was the only person in the province to own such a vehicle.
Obverse
The obverse design of the 2020 Chinese Kweichow Auto Silver Dollar Coin highlights Zhous Packard car. This American-made automobile was a luxury item at the time, especially in a province with little exposure to industrialization. It likely represented progress and modernization, making it an ideal choice for Zhou to include on currency associated with the provinces new highway.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2020 Kweichow Auto 1 oz Silver Dollar Coin, youll see a poppy flower surrounded by Chinese inscriptions. Zhou Xicheng, who held power in Kweichow during the Warlord Era, relied heavily on opium production as a revenue stream. The use of the poppy on the coin is a nod to the economic and political realities of that era in southwestern China.
History
Originally called the Kweichow Province silver dollar, the 1928 Chinese Auto Dollar is one of the most recognized commemorative coins from early 20th-century China. It was authorized by Zhou Xicheng to mark the building of Kweichow Provinces first highway. At the center of the coin’s design is Zhous personal Packard automobile, reflecting both the event and Zhous influence in the region.
