Obverse
For the obverse of the Kingdom of Bhutan Lunar Rat 1 oz Silver Coin, you will find the image of a cuddly little rat in the center of the design field. The rats appearance is shaped by billowing clouds at the tip of its tail, as well as the ears on its head. The rats body has several flowers included in the engraving to add an ornate appearance. Inscriptions on this side include Year of the Rat, Nu 200, and 1 oz 999 Fine Silver.
Reverse
The reverse design on the 2020 Kingdom of Bhutan Lunar Rat 1 oz Silver Coins features the national emblem for the Kingdom of Bhutan. Situated high in the Eastern Himalayas along the ancient Silk Route, Bhutan has a long history of independence. The nation is one of the few in the region never colonized or conquered by outside forces and regularly ranks as among the happiest in the world. The reverse design field includes two ornate, slithering dragons as frames to the broader depiction of the emblem.
History
The Bhutan Lunar and Attraction Series is produced by the Singapore Mint. The series launched in 2016 with the Year of the Monkey and has used common elements of flora, fauna, and natural imagery to create the lunar animal designs. The Singapore Mint was founded in 1968 to mint coinage for the then-newly-independent nation of Singapore.
