The Mexican Libertad Gold Coins were introduced in a 1/10 oz weight in 1991 when the series returned after a 10-year hiatus. The first coins in the collection were issued in 1981 with just 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/4 oz gold coins. The 1991 reintroduction of the series resulted in the debut of the 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz gold coins. The coins were then struck from 1991 to 1994, again in 2000, and annually as of 2002.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2020 Mexican Libertad 1/10 oz Gold Coins is a vision of Winged Victory. Known as the Angel of Independence, her figure is inspired by the goddess of victory known as Victoria. In this design, she holds a wreath crown in one hand and a set of broken chains in the other hand. The background includes the twin volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
Reverse
The reverse face of 2020 Mexican Libertad 1/10 oz Gold Coins features the modern coat of arms for Mexico. Representative of the national government, this seal depicts a Mexican golden eagle on a cactus arm as it battles with a serpent using its beak and talons.
History
The highest mintage ever recorded for the Mexican Libertad 1/10 oz Gold Coin was the 1992 release with a total of 50,777 coins. Individual mintage figures have not surpassed the 10,000-coin mark since 1994 and the 2019 issue of the coin in this weight sold just 1,250 units. That was the lowest mintage among the five Mexican Libertad Gold Coins in 2019.
