Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of the 2020 Proof British Music Legends Series 1/2 oz Silver Coin. Designed by Jody Clark in 2015, this fifth-generation effigy of the Queen debuted on British coins in 2016. The right-profile portrait captures the Queen at the age of 89 with earrings in and the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read Elizabeth II, D.G. Reg. F.D., 1 Pound, and 2020.

Reverse

David Bowie is captured in a portrait on the reverse of 2020 Proof British Music Legends Series David Bowie Silver Coin. From 1976 to 1979, Bowie moved to West Berlin to clean up his life and revitalize his career. The portrait of him found on this side of the coin emerges from a lightning bolt in the background. There is a field of stars in the upper left with his last name flashing beneath the lightning bolt in the lower right as Bowie.

History

The David Bowie release is the third in the British Music Legends Collection. The series launched in 2020 with a design honoring the worlds greatest stadium rock band, Queen. The second coin issued over the summer of 2020 was the Elton John coin. Bowie is the first musician to actually feature in the series in a portrait. The Queen release featured musical instruments representing each of the four original members, while the Elton John release used images of some of his most iconic wardrobe items in the design.
