History

Completed in 1420, the Forbidden City palace complex was home to 24 different emperors between 1420 and 1924. The final emperor to reside in the palace was Puyi. Through an agreement with the Republic of China, Puyi was allowed to continue residing in the Inner Court of the palace complex, while the Outer Cort was given over to the new government for public use.
