The Mexican Mint introduced the proof coins in the Mexican Libertad Silver series in 1983 with a 1 oz coin. Fractional-ounce coins were added to the series in 1992, followed by 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins in 1996. These proof-like 1 Kilo coins were added in 2002. Other versions within the proof series include antique and reverse proof coins for the 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz weights added in 2017 and 2018 across all three weights.

Obverse

Her figure is featured here as it stands at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. The column was erected in 1921 to celebrate 100 years of independence from Spain. However, the 22-foot tall statue of Winged Victory had actually been constructed a decade earlier in 1910 to celebrate 100 years from the start of Mexicos war of independence.

The image featured in the center is the modern version of the seal. It depicts a Mexican golden eagle battling with a serpent from its perch on a cactus. History
