Inspired by Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, this figure is often called the Angel of Independence and serves as a symbol of Mexicos independence. The 5 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coin is the largest option in the standard proof series. This size was first released in 1996 together with the 2 oz proof coin, bringing the total number of available proof weights to seven. Earlier in the series, the 1 oz coin debuted in 1986, followed by four fractional-ounce coins in 1992.
