Obverse

For the obverse design element of the 2020 Proof North Dakota Chippewa Eagle Silver Coin, the Native American Mint offers a portrait of a member of the Chippewa tribe. The Chippewa people represent the fifth-largest US indigenous tribe by population and the second-largest Canadian First Nation tribe by population. In Canada, only the Cree has a larger population than the Chippewa. In the US, the Navajo, Cherokee, and Choctaw are among the tribes with larger populations.

Reverse

In the reverse design field of 2020 Proof North Dakota Chippewa Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins is an image of an eagle. The North American continent is home to a number of eagle species, but the most prominent are the golden eagle and bald eagle. While the golden eagle is known to inhabit the Dakotas are certain times of the year, it does not do so in breeding pairs. The bald eagle, on the other hand, is widely found throughout the continental US.

History

The Proof Native American Dollar Silver Coin Series debuted at the Native American Mint in 2015. The series has offered a range of different designs with each date mark in an attempt to catalog all of the states in the US and a representative indigenous tribe that currently or historically called that region home.
