Obverse
The obverse side of 2020 Solomon Islands Great Hammerhead Shark-Shaped Silver Coins bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in the center of the sharks body. The design is the fourth-generation portrait from the Royal Mint of England that was designed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. Also found on this side of the coin is the individual serial number of the coin, as well as the weight, purity, and metal content.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2020 Solomon Islands Great Hammerhead Shark-Shaped 1 oz Silver Coins features the depiction of a Great Hammerhead Shark as it swims. The coin itself has the actual shape of a Great Hammerhead Shark and resembles the large predator. The Great Hammerhead is the largest member of its species and can grow to a length of 20 feet. Great Hammerheads can bear litters of pups numbering as many as 55 sharks every two years.
History
The Hunters of the Deep Series includes three distinctive designs of underwater predators and is a complementary series to the Hunters of the Sky, another three-coin series with animal-shaped silver releases. The Great Hammerhead Shark is an apex predator but rarely threatens humans. Most interactions between humans and Great Hammerhead Sharks often are benign and borne of curiosity on the part of the sharks, but this is still a dangerous predator.
