Leopards are one of the more unique big cats in the world. One of the five living large cats in the Panthera genus. With coats that range in color from yellow or golden to tawny and even all-black, the leopard has rosettes throughout its coat that creates a distinctive visual pattern. Leopards are known to take their kill and drag it up trees, the only member of the large cats to do so, in order to protect its kill from poachers like hyenas.

History

The Big Five Series from the South African Mint launched in 2019. The first design of five in the collection was that of the African bush elephant. The second design was that of the African lion. In 2020, the first release of that date mark and the third overall was the rhinoceros. These leopard coins are the second of 2020 and fourth overall.
