This design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens was created in 1907 and features a full-length figure of Liberty in front-facing relief. She walks away from the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C. with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The background includes sun rays and a ring of 50 stars around Liberty. The inscriptions on this field of the coin include LIBERTY and 2021.

Reverse

An all-new bald eagle design is depicted on the reverse side of the 2021 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Type 2 Coins. Designed by Jennie Norris, the image shows the head of the bald eagle in left-profile relief with incredible levels of detail. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD – 10 DOLLARS.

History

Jennie Norris design of the bald eagle was chosen from a selection of more than 30 designs to be the new reverse depiction on the American Eagle Gold Coins. She is a graphic designer, professor at the University of Arizona, and member of the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program.
