The American Eagle Gold Coins new design comes from Jennie Norris was chosen from a field of more than 30 possible designs. Jennie Norris is a graphic designer who also has a passion for the great outdoors and routinely explores the world around her home in Tucson, Arizona. She is a member of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin is an effigy of Lady Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This version of the design has been enhanced for the Type 2 release to bring the imagery closer to the original intention of Saint-Gaudens 1907 design. The details on the stars, torch, Capitol Building, and sun rays in the design have been enhanced to reflect the 1907 design. Inscriptions include Liberty and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse field of 2021 American Eagle Gold Coins comes with the new bald eagle design. Ms. Norris new design shows the bald eagle in left-profile relief with its sharp gaze fixed on the horizon and the details of the feathers in its plumage captured perfectly. Inscriptions on this face read United States of America, In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Gold – 50 Dollars. The coins now feature a security variation in the reeded edge of the coins.

History

The American Eagle Gold Coin has undergone one minor design change in its history. From 1986 to 1991, the coins had date marks noted in Roman numerals. In 1992, the US Mint adopted the current Arabic numerals.
