The United States Mint has charted a new course forward for its American Eagle bullion coins in the gold and silver series in 2021. To mark the 35th anniversary of the series, the US Mint offers a new design of the bald eagle on the reverse of each coin series. Coins with a Mint State 69 grade exhibit full, original mint luster and come with no more than two minor detracting flaws. Obverse
The obverse of the 2021 American Eagle Gold Coin comes with a depiction of Lady Liberty. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the image shows Liberty with rays of sunshine at her back and a ring of 50 stars around the design element. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read Liberty and 2021.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins is the all-new image of the bald eagle. Created by Jennie Norris, this image shows the head of the bald eagle in left-profile relief. The birds plumage is captured in exceptional detail, along with the power and majesty of its watchful gaze and hooked beak. Inscriptions include United States of America, In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Gold – 50 Dollars.
History
The new American Eagle Gold Type 2 Coin has two new features not present on the Type 1 release in 2021. The level of detail on the stars, torch, sun rays, and the Capitol Building has been enhanced to match Saint-Gaudens original intention for the image. The coins now have an anti-counterfeiting measure in the form of a reeded edge variation.
