Lady Liberty is found on the obverse side of 2021 American Eagle Gold Coins. This iconic design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens at the request of President Theodore Roosevelt. It featured on the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin until 1933 and shows Liberty walking forward with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The inscriptions feature Liberty and 2021.

Reverse

A brand-new vision of the American bald eagle is found in the reverse design of the 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins. This design from Jennie Norris depicts the eagle in left-profile relief with incredible levels of detail included that capture the individual feathers in its plumage among the many beautiful features. Inscriptions read United States of America, In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Gold – 50 Dollars.

History

The obverse design of the American Eagle Gold Coin now has enhanced details on the stars, torch, sun rays, and the U.S. Capitol Building. This was done to bring the design closer to Saint-Gaudens original artwork in 1907 that he intended to be struck in high relief, a capacity the US Mint lacked at the time. Though the details are not in high relief, each one is now closer in appearance to the design Saint-Gaudens developed in 1907.
