American Eagle Platinum Coins come with distinctive designs on the BU specimens that are found neither on other US Mint products, nor on any historic US coins. John Mercanti developed the image of the Statue of Liberty on the obverse for this series exclusively, while Thomas D. Rogers did the same with his American bald eagle design for the reverse.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins is the vision of the Statue of Liberty. This depiction shows Liberty gazing straight forward at the viewer as she is seen gazing out over the Atlantic Ocean from her perch in New York Harbor. Libertys gaze remains stoic as she wears a towering crown. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include Liberty, 2021, In God We Trust, and E Pluribus Unum.
Reverse
The reverse field of 2021 American Eagle Platinum Coins comes with the design of an American bald eagle soaring through the sky. The eagle is shown with its wings flexed straight to its sides as it glides upon the breeze over the nation. The sun is depicted in the background as it rises to spread its warmth over a new day. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read United States of America, $100, and .9995 Platinum 1 oz.
History
American Eagle Platinum Coins have been available only as a 1 oz platinum coin since 2016. From 1997 to 2008, the 1 oz coin was available alongside 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins. The fractional-ounce coins were halted in 2009 and the 1 oz coin suspended until 2014.

2021 American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins available here come with a Mint State 69 grade. Coins with this certification have full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor flaws. Those detracting flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be found only outside the primary focal points. Early Release coins are those received within 30 days of the original release date.
