Obverse

The obverse of the 2021 American Eagle Platinum Coin depicts the face of the Statue of Liberty. Designed by John Mercanti in 1997 for this series, the Liberty design found here is the only one in the American Eagle bullion series not previously used on circulation coins in the United States. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include Liberty above the statues head, 2021 and In God We Trust to the open field in the right, and E Pluribus Unum along the design rocker on the left within the robes of Liberty.

Reverse

On the reverse face of 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins is a bald eagle. Designed by Thomas D. Rogers, this depiction of the eagle shows the powerful national symbol as it soars over the country with the sun rising in the background field. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read United States of America, .9995 Platinum 1 oz., and $100.

History

The designers of the American Eagle Platinum Coin images have 46 years of experience between them. Thomas D. Rogers worked for the US Mint at the Philadelphia Mint facility from 1991 to 2001. John Mercanti started his career at the US Mint in 1974. In 2006, he was promoted to the position of Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and served as the 12^th leader of coin design at the mint until 2010 when he retired.
