Emily Damstras design submitted to the US Mint and its advisory boards was the one chosen to grace the reverse of the American Eagle Silver Coin going forward beyond 2021. Her previous experience designing wildlife-themed coinage includes two designs in the Canadian Wildlife Series and all four designs in the Birds of Prey Series at the Royal Canadian Mint. She has also previously contributed designs to the US Mints America the Beautiful collection.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Type 2 Coins is Walking Liberty. This iconic image depicts Liberty walking in left-profile relief from right to left across the design field. The enhanced field now includes the AW initials of Weinmans signature mark as used in the design in 1916 on the US half dollar. Inscriptions include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2021 American Eagle Silver Type 2 Coin features the all-new American bald eagle. This realistic depiction captures the eagle mid-air as it expands its wings behind its figure and uses its talons to carry a large oak branch. The inscriptions on this side include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Silver One Dollar.

History

The United States Mint not only issues a new design for the first time ever in 2021, but it also issues its first-ever two-version release. The 2021 production cycle started with the original design of the Heraldic Eagle, now known as Type 1 for 2021 coins. These coins with the new design are known as Type 2 for 2021 coins to differentiate between the design elements.
