The first version to be released featured the famous reverse design by Miley Busiek thats been used since 1986. In the latter part of 2021, the U.S. Mint released the coin series second version with the new reverse design by Jennie Norris. There are four coins in the 2021 American Gold Eagle 4-Coin Set NGC MS70 FR Type 2, each with different values and weights: $5 (1/10 oz), $10 (1/4 oz), $25 (1/2 oz), and $50 (1 oz). Each coin has been graded with a Mint State 70 from the NGC, which means that they are all perfect specimens. Even if viewed under a 5x magnification, there are no imperfections.

History

In 2021, the U.S. Mint introduced two versions of the 2021 American Gold Eagle coin series. The second version contains the new reverse design by Jennie Norris. At the beginning of 2021, production of this coin program was not ready for the new design, so the U.S. Mint waited to release the second version of the coins until July 2021.

Obverse

On the obverse, the 2021 American Gold Eagle 4-Coin Set NGC MS70 FR Type 2 has an image of Lady Liberty walking forward towards the viewer. In her hands, she holds a torch and an olive branch. The background features sun rays that frame Lady Liberty, and theres a ring of 50 stars encircling her head.

Reverse

On the reverse, 2021 American Gold Eagle 4-Coin Set NGC MS70 FR Type 2 shows Jennie Norris new design. The head of an eagle is shown from the left-profile and works to capture the details of the bird. This includes its piercing gaze and the powerful hook of its beak.
