Obverse

On the obverse of the 2021 Australian Lunar Ox 1 Kilo Silver Coin is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief in a design that represents the sixth image of the Queen used on Australian coins. In the portrait, the Queen wears the George IV State Diadem Crown, earrings, and a necklace. This is the first effigy of the Queen on Australian coins since 1966 to include her neckline and shoulders in the field. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read Elizabeth II, Australia, 1 Kilo 9999 Ag, and 30 Dollars.

Reverse

The reverse face of 2021 Australian Lunar Ox 1 Kilo Silver Coins includes an image of the ox. In this case, two oxen are featured in the imagery. In the foreground, an adult ox stands in the dirt beneath a cherry blossom tree branch with a young calf standing nearby. The background field includes a small farming village. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Ox 2021 and include the Chinese symbol for ox.

History

The Perth Mint issued its first lunar-themed collection in 1996 with the Lunar Series I program that ran from 1996 to 2007. From 2008 to 2019, the Lunar Series II collection expanded the options for investors and garnered greater interest for such collections from the Perth Mint. In 2020, the Lunar Series III program launched.
