Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse of the new 2021 Australian Wombat 1 oz Silver Coin. The depiction of the Queen found here is the sixth-generation effigy to feature on Australian coins during her reign. It is based on Jody Clarks 2015 design for the Royal Mint and was expanded for use on Australian coins to include her entire neckline and her shoulders, a first on Australian coins in more than 50 years. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Elizabeth II, Australia, and 1 Dollar.

Reverse

A small wombat is depicted in the foreground of the reverse design on the 2021 Australian Wombat Silver Coin. The wombat consists of three identified subspecies and the creatures are found on the Australian continent in a number of different types of habitats. The wombat depicted here is shown in a small burrow it has dug out underground and is sitting on all fours as it gazes forward. The inscriptions on this side include Wombat, 2021 1 oz 9999 Silver, and the P mint mark of the Perth Mint.

History

Wombats are largely found across southern and eastern Australia, as well as in Tasmania. There is a small population of wombats that can be found in Queensland state within Epping Forest National Park.
